Needing to support multi-agency incident management and response at BWI Airport, the Maryland Aviation Administration integrated physical security information management and computer-aided dispatch systems to improve situational awareness and consolidate dispatching and service processing.
The Challenge
Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI) Airport is the busiest airport in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. (USA) area, and is widely recognised as leader in airport security and public safety. The agency responsible for keeping passengers and cargo safe and secure at BWI Airport is the Maryland Aviation Administration.
To support multi-agency incident management and response at BWI Airport, the Maryland Aviation Administration needed an integrated dispatch and physical security system to consolidate dispatching and service processing for all airport police, fire and emergency medical services. The solution would need to support the Maryland Aviation Administration’s newly formed Consolidate Dispatch Centre (CDC) with the ability to monitor and respond to several thousand alarms generated from campuswide safety and security systems. The solution also needed to support the CDC’s mission as the secondary public safety answering point (PSAP) to the Anne Arundel County PSAP.
The Solution
The Maryland Aviation Administration selected Hexagon Safety & Infrastructure to implement an integrated physical security information management and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) system.
Powered by Hexagon’s I/Security and I/CAD, the CDC has fully integrated video and sensor system monitoring and control coupled with communications and dispatch. These combined capabilities provide operators and officers complete situational awareness – from detection and assessment to response.
In addition to automated vehicle locator and mobile data computer subsystems, the integrated systems include an enhanced 911 emergency call processing system with instant recall/recorder functionality; controlled access and closed circuit security, telephony, 911 database management, fire alarm monitoring and fire station alerting systems; dispatch consoles; and associated dispatch furniture.
Using Hexagon’s public safety and security solutions, the Maryland Aviation Administration has a fully integrated platform including all necessary software, hardware and integration services for multi-system and multi-agency coordination.
