Hexagon recognitions of 2023: A look at our 14 Gartner® Hype Cycle™ recognitions

In this overview, we’ll spotlight a few key highlights from among the 14 reports where Hexagon was named.

Hype Cycle for Environmental Sustainability, 2023

  • Gartner notes: “Executive leaders are capitalising on technologies as a driver in their sustainability programs. These innovations can help organisations meet environmental sustainability goals and ambitions when applied well.”

“The collection of technologies and innovations included in this Hype Cycle fit into three categories:

  • Resource optimisation technologies and capabilities — such as energy efficiency, sustainable packaging, smart buildings and net-zero data centres.
  • Data and analytics and digitally-enabled insight — such as AI for sustainability, water risk analytics, geospatial platforms, carbon accounting, life cycle analysis tools and supply chain blockchain.
  • Underlying catalysts, concepts and capabilities — such as the circular economy, environmental, social and governance (ESG), Scope 3 GHG emissions data, green and sustainable finance and voluntary carbon offsets.”

Hexagon is recognised as a sample vendor in two categories: Geospatial platforms, which are “platform as a service (PaaS) and data as a service (DaaS) offerings in the context of spatial data processing, such as web mapping, mobile geospatial apps, location services, imagery services, analytics and geo event processing” and building information modelling (BIM), “the discipline supported by software to capture, organise and manage information needed to design, create, monitor, repair, evolve and operate facilities from earliest conception to demolition.”

We believe this recognition in the Hype Cycle for Environmental Sustainability underscores Hexagon’s dedication to driving sustainability through innovation. Hype Cycle for Smart City Technologies and Solutions, 2023

  • The 2023 Hype Cycle for Smart City Technologies and Solutions “focuses on the holistic ecosystem approach made possible by data exchanges and digital twin use cases.”

Hexagon is recognised as a sample vendor in three categories:  Digital twins of government (DToG), “a virtual representation of government and partner assets, people, and operations to mirror reality and provide real-time analysis, operation automation and scenario-based planning”; smart city transportation strategy for sustainable urban transport collaboration; and BIM.

Hype Cycle for Advanced Technologies for Manufacturers, 2023

  • Gartner notes: “Manufacturing CIOs have key opportunities to increase productivity, improve quality and drive innovation through evolving IT, thereby gaining competitiveness.”

“This Hype Cycle helps CIOs gather relevant information that supports their intentions to stay at the forefront of product and manufacturing innovation. It merges content from two prior Hype Cycles — the Hype Cycle for Manufacturing Digital Transformation and Innovation and The Hype Cycle for Manufacturing Digital Optimization and Modernization.”

Hexagon is acknowledged as a sample vendor in two categories: Digital threads, “a framework of roles, processes and tools that enable the collection, organisation and presentation of data for multiple factors that influence a product or process and their evolutions over their respective life cycles” and plant engineering and design, which “refers to a suite of factory layout and design capabilities involving 3D modelling, drawing and simulation software.”

Hype Cycle for Utility Industry IT, 2023

  • Gartner states: “CIOs are expected to provide technology expertise and align investments with strategic business goals to accelerate their delivery.”

“This Hype Cycle gives utility CIOs insights to effectively align technology investments with strategic business goals.” Hexagon is recognised as a sample vendor in three categories: Lidar, Geospatial Platform and Drones in Utilities.

In LiDAR, Hexagon’s technology offers precise remote sensing for detailed 3D mapping, surveying and asset inspections. As a vendor for geospatial platforms, Hexagon improves utility industry operations by enhancing spatial data processing and management, which is crucial for analysing spatial trends and optimising asset management. Additionally, we believe Hexagon’s role in drones for utilities highlights our growing use in enhancing safety, reducing costs, and boosting productivity.
