Creating a Future of Smart Change

When we stop to think about who and what we admire, I think it’s safe to say many of us admire those who act on our behalf, who are committed to making our lives better and enhancing the future. That future is largely determined by the actions of governments, companies, organisations and individuals dedicated to making the world a better place.

Not every company can boast that its work involves daily collaboration with thought‑leading, pioneering organisations that improve our world by making contributions to business, industry and communities worldwide. Hexagon is privileged to have that opportunity.

Our Shaping Change Programme recognises such enterprises for their extraordinary achievements using Hexagon technologies. I’m proud to share some of the extraordinary successes of this year’s honorees.

Addressing threats and rising to new heights

There are organisations that protect us and keep us safe every day using resources provided by Hexagon and its customers. There is no fanfare, no 24-hour news cycle reports of these happenings, yet these organisations are at work, safeguarding us from threats.

Changjiang Spatial Information Technology Engineering uses 3D imaging technology from Leica Geosystems to place China’s Nuozhadu Dam firmly in its sight. This groundbreaking imaging technology deploys sensors to keep a high-precision, automated digital eye on the dam to detect dangerous conditions before they become life-threatening catastrophes for the workers deployed in engineering projects in the region.

The U.S. Coast Guard is probably most known for rescuing stranded seafarers, but this organisation’s deeds are more far-reaching. The U.S. Coast Guard Investigative Service looks to inPursuit WebRMS from Intergraph Government Solutions to support its criminal investigative activities. Using inPursuit WebRMS to replace all paper reports and streamline case‑tracking procedures during investigations has resulted in a reduction in case entry and report preparation time and an increase in agent efficiency and effectiveness.

In partnership with Intergraph Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), Selex ES is helping in the fight against terrorism worldwide. Selex ES Falco tactical UAS utilises a motion video exploitation solution engineered by Hexagon Geospatial technology to monitor the movements of armed groups in a given region. The UAS engagement arms commanders with the intelligence they need to protect civilians.

Innovation and fearlessness. These concepts were in full swing when Roger & Sons Concrete enlisted the help of Leica Geosystems to boldly push the envelope and move forward on an architectural feat other construction companies shied away from.

Picture this – a proposed 1,400-foot residential building in New York City. A daunting project, but someone had to do it and few were prepared. Roger & Sons was prepared because they leveraged Hexagon expertise for help with the building’s vertical alignment architectural approach. The company was acknowledged by the construction manager and project development team for topping off the building under budget, ahead of schedule and dead vertical. Roger & Sons raised the bar here, achieving excellence when others were afraid to try.

The spirit of competition and partnership – everybody wins

Change shapers often outpace their competition. Everything improves as a result because competition breeds innovation and advancements in products and quality. And it leads to improved customer service, a deeper commitment to understanding customers and devising ways to serve them better.

Foxconn, a leading provider of electronics manufacturing and design services, relies on more than 700 of Hexagon Metrology’s coordinate measuring and optical measuring machines to fulfill quality objectives in its operations. This partnership with Hexagon has pushed Foxconn ahead of the competition.

With the emergence of cloud-based technologies, businesses are able to operate more efficiently. Eni smartly leverages Intergraph’s SmartPlant Cloud to achieve speed, flexibility and ease in the management of its engineering data, resulting in improved quality of data, related documents and models. Eni is now poised to respond rapidly to business challenges, helping the company deliver maximum value to customers, benefitting consumers worldwide.

Since 2006, Fibria and Hexagon Agriculture have joined forces to develop software hardware and software solutions for the forestry industry. Fibria’s involvement has been an important factor in the creation of Hexagon Agriculture’s primary solutions bundle technology, considered the standard for forestry solutions in Brazil and globally.

As a preeminent engineering company in China, Sinopec Encinggering sought out Intergraph’s SmartPlant Enterprise solutions, technical support and consulting services to assist with the development of intricate engineering projects. Implementing SmartPlant solutions has enhanced safety, improved quality and boosted productivity for the company. These are drivers that ultimately provide clear benefits to the organisation’s customers.

Mecadat is an example of value creation at its finest. Mecadat utilised technology from Vero Software, enabling consolidation of its manufacturing processes, resulting in automated manufacturing procedures. The outcome? Vero’s customers have been rewarded with cost reductions, improved quality and faster lead times.

Hexagon, by working with these leading organisations, sits atop the spire of innovation. We are in good company, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this year’s honorees, leading-edge organisations that are shaping and changing society by creating long-term, viable strategic solutions for the betterment of humankind.

Partnering with those who look at the world not only as it is, but as it can and will be – that’s shaping smart change.
