Three Tips to Thriving in the Marathon Called HxGN LIVE 2015

0

It’s that time of year again where we gather from around the world to learn, teach and network. For several years, I have been fascinated with long distance running. While I haven’t run a marathon yet, I can see how attending HxGN LIVE may require a similar amount of endurance and willpower.

Often, people think of a conference in Las Vegas as nothing more than partying into the wee hours of the morning and skipping classes to hang at the pool. While it is tempting to continue walking straight into the enticing waters of the MGM Grand Pool after descending the stairs, the right-hand turn into the conference hall is rewarding. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about staying out with friends you only see once a year until the early morning hours, however I also find it rewarding to join the SmartRunners at 6 a.m.

Tip #1 Get outside!

The morning runs are a great way to begin your day by getting outside and boosting your energy levels. This morning we had a great turn out and the temperature was still fairly low. Even if you just get out a few minutes between sessions, it’s nice to get some vitamin D to help you make it through the day.

Tip #2 Hydrate!

Bring a water bottle with you everywhere. Las Vegas is quite a bit drier than most parts of the U.S. and maybe your city too. Even if you are not running in the mornings, you are walking quite a bit and this air can suck the moisture right out of you. And if you are hydrating with evening drinks, it is even more important to drink as much H2O as possible. Be sure to fill your bottle in the classes and around the convention center, since water is around $6USD a bottle in the stores.

Tip #3 Wear Proper Shoes!

It is a professional conference and while professional attire can vary from person to person, treat your feet well while you are here. If you brought comfortable shoes, be sure to wear them as you will walk quite a bit to and from the conference.

Hopefully by following these three tips your endurance will withstand so that you are able to get the most out of this marathon called HxGN Live 2015.
