Until this morning, I did not know that a vessel travelling at one knot along a meridian travels one minute of geographic latitude in one hour or that the term “knot” derives its origin from counting the number of knots in the line that unspooled from the reel of a chip log in a specific time (Wikipedia). I heard these from Ben Beall when I joined the rest of the Smart Runners for our inaugural fun run.
We had a good turnout of 15 runners for our 5:00 a.m. run today. It was interesting to meet runners from different states, countries and industries, and with diverse backgrounds brought together by our common passion for a simple, good run. We had people who ran anywhere between three and seven nautical miles at four to six knots. Within 45 minutes, I had the opportunity to chat with a cop on how they use Intergraph’s security solutions; heard from Melchior Ossenberg-Engels, OE Planung, how they were first in their market to leverage laser scanning for architectural work, and struggled to keep pace with Intergraph’s Marcel Veldhuizen who is a treasure trove of information on the history of Smart3D.
Like these runs, the conference presents a great opportunity to reconnect with friends and peers from you current network, and to make new contacts. I look forward a great conference and lots of learning.
Need some extra motivation to get your workouts in while you are at the conference? Check out our message board on the Hexagon International Conference LinkedIn site or just meet us for a 5K. We will be meeting Tuesday-Thursday at 5:00 a.m. by Leo, the lion statue, in the MGM Grand lobby.
